Match report - Rhos Aelwyd
Rhos Aelwyd 2 - 1 First Team. Welsh National League Premier Division. 27/02/10
Corwen went into the game full of confidence from the previous weeks results.
Rhos started the game very well, and put Corwen under a lot of pressure. Rhos opened their account after 10 minutes when a Nefyn Davies cross was not cleared, and Rhos top scorer Tony Cann was on hand to score from 8 yards.
The visitors fell further behind when Rhos were awarded a free kick 35 yards out. Ian Andrews sent a rocket of a shot goal words, which Gareth Roberts did well push on to the bar, but Rhos forward Nefyn Davies was the first to react to the rebounded ball, and was able to tap the ball in to the back of the net to give the home side a 2-0 lead.
Corwen came into the game more in the last 15 minutes of the half, and Calvin Davies was unlucky not to convert a cross from Stan Hughes to reduce the deficit.
The second half saw Corwen come back into the game, and put the home side under a lot of pressure. Debutant Mark Roberts was always a threat around the box.
The referee made a poor decision when Adam Lloyd played a long ball, which put Calvin Davies thorough on goal, only for the ref to award a free kick for a late tackle on Lloyd.
Corwen did manage to pull a goal back when a cross from Ryan Billington was handled in the box. Calvin slotted the resulting spot kick away for his 8th goal in 4 games.
In the last couple of minutes Mark Roberts looked to be clean through, only to be denied by a last ditch tackle from a Rhos defender.
