Match Report - Acrefair Reserves

Acrefair Reserves 2 - 3 Reserve Team.  Welsh National League Reserves and Colts Division. 06/03/09

Corwen’s Reserve team came in to the fixture in high sprits, as they had won every league game since tasting defeat at FC Cefn on the 26th of September, and had defeated their host 5-0 in the reverse of this fixture back in August.

Neither side really got going in the first half, and the visitors came closest to opening the scoring, when Ryan Williams had a shot cleared off the line by the goalkeeper, who suffered a slight injury in making the save.  From the resulting Andrew Roberts was able to send a header goal word, which the keeper was able to save, but he had to receive treatment after not recovering from the earlier injury.

He visitors had numerous opportunities to score in the second half, including an Andrew Roberts shot which hit the frame of the goal, and span on the goal line, enabling the goalkeeper to collect the ball before it crept over the line.

Scott Evans also had a good chance, but a good save from the goalkeeper sent the ball wide if the post.

The deadlock was broken by Acrefair’s right back, who scored with a finish any striker would be proud off, unfortunately for him it was at the wrong end, and gave Corwen a goal that didn’t look like coming.

The home side equalised when the visitors failed to clear their lines, and a perfectly weighted cross to the striker who was in acres of space for easy finish past the outstretched Nathan Aldridge.

Corwen got a slice of luck when they re-took the lead, as Ryan Williams crossed the ball in, which took about 4 deflections, before finally deflecting in to the back of the net off Scott Evans’s knee.

The visitors hadn’t learnt their lesson from the home side’s first goal, as some poor defending allowed their striker to find his team a second equaliser as he placed the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Corwen put a lot of pressure on the visitors box in search of a 3rd goal, and they re-took the lead when a Ryan Williams shot was saved by the goalkeeper, and Scot Evans was the first to react to the rebound, and he scored his second of the match with a cool finish.
