Match Report
Borras Park Albion 2 V Corwen 3
Welsh National Premier Division 12/09/08
The First team played their first game under floodlights since the Welsh Trophy Semi Final in February as the tie was switched to the Queensway stadium due to problems with Borras’s home pitch. The switch was met with high approval from the players, as the surface was in pristine condition.
The game started off evenly, with both side’s creating chances, but it was Borras that broke the deadlock after 25 minutes through Matty Rowlands, as he shot from the side of the box, and saw his attempt going in near the far post. Andrew Roberts must have thought he was going to equalise, after he received that ball in the box, with only one defender and the goalkeeper in his path, only for him to lose his footing at the vital moment.
However James Davies ensured that Corwen would not go into the half time interval behind, as he scored his 3rd equaliser in as many games, this time via a great header in the 35th minute.
Corwen didn’t waste much time in taking the lead, as Captain Iwan Jones scored 5 minutes into the second half, which was the least his great performance deserved. This was a little against the run of play, as Borras were probably the better side in the first half, but the goal relieved some of the pressure from Corwen, and started off an improved second half display. The away side capitalised on their improved second half performance on the hour mark, as James played in Andrew to score his first goal of the season with another good header.
The 2 goal deficit seem to frustrate some of the Borras players, as substitute Darren Jones was deservedly booked for kicking out at Iwan. But one member of the home side managed to keep a cool head, as Simon Richards capped off a great display with a good finish after 77 minutes to bring Borras back into the game.
However a strong defensive display and a brilliant performance in goal from Nathan Aldridge, who seemed to pounce on the ball any time it came anywhere near his six yard box. The defence did push their luck a few times though, as they gave away free kicks in dangerous areas 3 minutes before time, and again in stoppage time.
